If you are experiencing an overwhelming amount of spam calls, it can be difficult to know what to do. While Cloaked's tools can remove your information from publicly available data brokers and can provide you with anonymous numbers to protect your true number, it is certainly possible that your number was distributed before you downloaded Cloaked.
Luckily, our existing tools can be combined with some built-in phone settings to make it so you only receive calls from known/saved contacts and from people who have specific Cloaked numbers you have generated. You can learn more about generating Cloaked Identities and Cloaking yourself in the linked articles.
The general strategy:
To prevent unwanted calls, we will leverage Cloaked's capabilities to generate limitless unique numbers to give out to specific people you want to be able to contact you, and do two things:
1. Prevent anyone who is not in your contacts from reaching your current number
2. Add everyone who contacts you via Cloaked numbers to your contacts by default:
These unique numbers are part of Cloaked's identity generation
Blocking unknown Callers on iOS:
Apple has a guide on how to do this here.
Blocking unknown Callers on Android:
While Android devices can vary, you should be able to:
-
Open the phone app
-
Tap the three dots at the top of the Phone app screen.
-
Tap “Settings” in the dropdown menu.
-
Enter the “Block numbers” option and turn on “Block unknown callers”
Now, calls to your personal number from non-saved numbers will be blocked by default. As such, we can use Cloaked numbers to ensure that the people we want to reach us are added to our contacts by default.
