Why should I use Cloaked to contact a data broker?
When contacting a data broker a disposable (burner email address), or a Cloaked email address is highly recommended when contacting data brokers. Data brokers are known to add you to their marketing lists and databases even if your purpose is to opt-out. By using a cloaked identity, you can protect your personal email address from being misused.
What should I do after contacting them?
After contacting the data broker with your cloaked email, you'll need to wait 2 weeks or more for them to process your request to have your data removed. During this time, you'll need to keep using the Cloaked Identity and email address around.
Once you've received confirmation that the removal process is complete, you can safely delete the Cloaked Identity and the related email address. This ensures that even if the data broker keeps the email on file, it will no longer be usable. The key reason to use a Cloaked Identity is to protect your personal information.
Why does this matter?
If you don't Cloak your info, it could lead to issues like spam, scams, or vulnerabilities if the site mishandles your data.
It also prevents your personal info from being used to attack your other online accounts if the site is breached or is malicious. Keeping your personal information cloaked is an important way to protect your online presence.
