Cloaked Pay is a Virtual Card feature that lets you shop online without sharing your real card details, protecting you from fraud without compromising security or convenience.
With Cloaked Pay cards, you can set spending limits, restrict which merchant the cards can be used at, and more. These controls give you full visibility and protection with every transaction, so you’re always in control over how and when your funds are used.
Cloaked Pay cards are part of Cloaked’s Identities feature. Generating a new card will generate a corresponding Identity.
In this article, you’ll learn how to set up your Cloaked account for Cloaked Pay.
Who is eligible for Cloaked Pay?
Currently, Cloaked Pay is included as part of a Cloaked subscription plan (monthly or annual).
Cloaked Pay is currently open to:
- U.S. citizens residing in the United States
- Individuals who are 18 years or older
- Individuals who pass identity verification
Access to Cloaked Pay is currently limited. To request access, make sure you’re on a Cloaked subscription and then join the waitlist via the Cloaked App.
How to set up Cloaked Pay for your account
Let’s learn how to set up Cloaked Pay for your account and create your first card.
Navigate to Cloaked → Virtual Cards, and begin by clicking Protect My Payment Methods.
Step 1: Identity Verification
To comply with financial regulations, you’ll need to complete a required one-time identity check. This process verifies your legal name, address, and social security number to ensure secure and compliant access to Cloaked Pay.

Click Get Verified.
- Enter your first and last name, date of birth, address, phone number, and email address. You should use the same phone number and email address that you would supply on any financial application. Click Continue.
- Next, input your social security number or ITIN. Cloaked will never store or share your SSN or ITIN. Click Save and continue when you’re ready.
- Review your profile to confirm your personal information is correct, and then click Continue. You can edit your details if you notice an error.
- Next, you’ll be prompted to acknowledge that you agree to the following agreements:
- Rates & Fees
- Cloaked does not charge any fees to use Cloaked Pay; however, you’ll see the following agreements: Membership Fees, Transaction Fee, Penalty Fees, Foreign Transaction Fee
- Terms of Service
- Privacy Policy
- Charge Card Agreement
- E-Sign
- Rates & Fees
- When you’re ready, click Submit Verification.
In some cases, you might be prompted to reach out to the Support team to supply additional documentation to verify your identity, such as a U.S. Driver’s License or passport.
While Cloaked Pay doesn’t charge any fees, keep in mind that you may be charged fees associated with the underlying funding source you’re using as a payment method with Cloaked Pay.
Step 2: Add a Funding Source
Next, link a funding source that you can use to fund purchases made with your Cloaked Pay cards.
Select Credit Card, Debit Card, or Bank Account (ACH) and follow the instructions on your screen to add your payment method details. These details will always be encrypted.
You must use a U.S.-issued credit or debit card or bank account.
Step 3: Set up your first Cloaked Pay Card
Finally, it’s time to create your first card.
- Select what type of card you want to set up:
- One-time card: expires after one use and prevents merchants from charging again
- Ongoing card: renews every 30 days and can be used for subscription services. Cancel your card anytime to cancel your subscription

Custom card: configure your card according to your specifications, including control over when it expires, which merchant you’d like to use it for, and custom limits.
- After you’ve created your card, click on it to view the card number, expiration date, security code. You can now start to make purchases with your new card!
When you create a Cloaked Pay card, you will see a temporary pre-authorization on your funding source. This is to ensure you have sufficient funds available for the card you’ve created. For more information, visit our Help Center guide.
We do not have a publicly available cap on the number of cards you can create or spending limit, but you should see no issues using Cloaked Pay within expected usage patterns.
