Why does my Virtual Card need to set a spending limit?

Spending limits are the core feature that makes Cloaked Virtual Cards safer than traditional cards. By capping the amount a card can spend, you’re limiting your financial risk exposure.

Here’s why that matters:

  • Prevent overspending: You decide the maximum amount a merchant can charge, so you’ll never be surprised by a bill larger than you expected.
  • Stop runaway subscriptions: If a subscription renews at a higher price, the charge will fail instead of slipping through.
  • Reduce fraud exposure: If a card is ever compromised, the attacker can only spend up to your set limit — not your full account balance.
  • Peace of mind for one-time purchases: When you only need a card once, you can set a low limit so you’re not on the hook for extra charges later.

In short: the spending limit is there to protect you. It makes Cloaked Pay different from a regular card where a stolen number could mean unlimited charges.
