Why can't I use my Cloaked card?

If you’re trying to make a purchase and your Cloaked card isn’t working, we know it can be frustrating. This guide walks through the most common reasons a card may be disabled entirely or why a specific transaction might fail — and how to fix it.

Step 1: Is your card disabled?

If your card doesn’t work anywhere, it’s likely disabled for one of these reasons:

  • You have an unpaid balance:
This is the most common cause. If AutoPay is turned off and you owe a balance, all of your Cloaked Pay cards will be disabled until that balance is paid in full.
  • No active funding source:
Every Cloaked card must be tied to a valid funding source. If you removed or updated the funding source it was linked to, the card will remain disabled until you assign a new one in your dashboard.

Step 2: Is a specific transaction being declined?

If your card generally works but one particular purchase is failing, it may be due to:

  • Spending limits: The transaction exceeds a per-card or monthly spending limit you set.
  • Insufficient funds: Your linked funding source doesn’t have enough funds at the time of the purchase.
  • Restricted merchant category: Certain categories (such as cryptocurrency or high-risk merchants) may be blocked.
  • Bank security check: Sometimes your own bank or card issuer blocks the charge for fraud-prevention reasons.

What to do next

  • Check your dashboard: Review whether the card is locked, paused, or tied to an expired/removed funding source.
  • Clear balances: Pay any outstanding balance to re-enable your cards.
  • Contact your bank: If your card is active but the transaction is still blocked, ask your bank whether they flagged the charge.
  • Reach out to Cloaked Support: If you’ve tried the above and your card is still not working, email support@cloaked.com and we’ll help you get back up and running.
