Troubleshooting Contact Access for Call Guard Setup

Why does Call Guard need my contacts?

As part of Call Guard setup, your contact list is used to screen potential spam callers. When someone in your contacts calls, they ring straight through to you without talking to the Call Guard assistant first. It only screens calls from numbers not in your contacts..

How to Check and Grant Contact Access

Sometimes, the permission just needs to be double-checked or reset in your phone's main settings. Here’s how to find it (these steps might look slightly different depending on your phone model):

For iPhone (iOS):

  1. Open the main Settings app on your iPhone (the grey gear icon).
  2. Scroll way down until you see the list of your apps. Find and tap on Cloaked.
  3. Look for Contacts. Make sure the switch next to it is ON (green).
    • (Agent Note: Insert screenshot of iOS Settings > Cloaked > Contacts toggle here)
  4. If it was already ON, try turning it OFF, wait a few seconds, and then turn it ON again.

For Android:

  1. Open the main Settings app on your phone (usually a gear icon).
  2. Tap on Apps or Apps & notifications.
  3. You might need to tap See all apps. Find and tap on Cloaked.
  4. Tap on Permissions.
  5. Look for Contacts. If it says "Denied" or "Not Allowed", tap on it and choose Allow.
    • (Agent Note: Insert screenshot of Android Settings > Apps > Cloaked > Permissions > Contacts toggle here)
  6. If it already said "Allowed", try tapping on it, choosing Deny, waiting a few seconds, and then choosing Allow again.

Important Tip:

Sometimes, the easiest fix is to:

  1. Go into your phone settings (using the steps above) and turn OFF (or Deny) contact access for Cloaked.
  2. Go back to the Cloaked app and try the Call Guard setup step again.
  3. This time, follow the pop-up prompts from Cloaked or your phone to Allow access when it asks. This often helps the app correctly register the permission.

Still Stuck?

If you've tried these steps and it's still not letting you grant full contact access to finish the Call Guard setup, please let us know! It might be something else going on. It would be helpful if you could tell us:

  • What kind of phone you have (like iPhone 13, Samsung Galaxy S22, Google Pixel 6, etc.)
  • Whether it's an iPhone (iOS) or Android phone.

We'll do our best to help you get Call Guard up and running!
