How to Fully Set Up Your Account

Lucas
Lucas

Welcome to Cloaked! We here at Cloaked are passionate about helping users to maintain their data privacy, and we're so glad to see that you've joined our fight against the data industry.

As a new user, there are a few important steps you'll need to take to get your account fully set up. The first part of this guide will be geared towards Basic Mode users, or those who are only or mainly interested in our Data Removal program. If you are also interested in our Identity Generation feature, please referenced the Advanced Mode section of this guide.

This article contains our recommendations for what to do when you start using Cloaked. None of these steps are mandatory, but may improve your Cloaked experience.

Table of Contents:

  1. Basic Mode
  2. Advanced Mode
  3. What's Next?

Basic Mode

All users first start out in basic mode, which is mainly focused on our data removal feature.

Log in on both mobile and your computer

The first thing you will want to do after purchasing your subscription is to get logged in on both the mobile app and, optionally, on a computer browser. Let's start first with the mobile app.

  1. You will first need to download the Cloaked app. If you are on an Android device, you can download it using this link below:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.android.cloaked&hl=en_US&pli=1

And if you are on an Apple device, you can download it here instead:
    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cloaked-protect-your-privacy/id1600487147
  2. Once the app is downloaded, open the app and you should see the app's landing page. Click on Log in:
  3. This will bring you to the sign in page. New accounts are defaulted to having a phone number as the username. Please try to sign in with your phone number before trying an email address or other username.

If you see "Let's set up your account", you are on the account creation page and will be prompted to pay again.
  4. If this is your first time logging in and your username is your phone number, you will be receiving a one time passcode via text message to log in.

Logging in on a computer browser follows the same process. However, you will be using the link below to log in:

Check and update your data removal enrollment details

Now that you are logged into your account, you'll need to double check your data removal enrollment. If you are not yet enrolled, your screen may look something like this:

In this case, you will need to click on Complete Enrollment form to fill out your enrollment details. This will bring you to this page:

DDformempty.PNG

If you already submitted an enrollment,  you'll be prompted to add additional details to make sure that our search is as thorough as possible. The page for this should look as follows:

If you've already completed your enrollment, your home page may look like this:

If you would like to view and edit your enrollment details, click on the "View removal progress" button, then on Settings at the top right corner.

Now that you've gotten logged into your account and have finished getting your enrollment details updated, all that's left to do is to wait on each data broker to process the removal requests we've sent out on your behalf! Although some data brokers may take longer than others, we'll be sure to do our part in following up with each broker to ensure that your information is removed in a timely manner!

Data Deletion... How does that work?

Advanced Mode

In addition to our data removal program, you may also have heard about our Identity Generation feature. By using Cloaked Identity Generation, you can create email addresses and phone numbers to hand out to websites, apps, and services that require contact information, and even use Cloaked as your password manager! If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, you may be ready to switch over to Advanced Mode.

Toggle on Advanced Mode

If you are on the mobile app, you can find the advanced mode toggle on the top right corner of your screen.
appadvancedmodetoggle.png

On a computer browser, however, you will need to click on your profile icon at the top right corner of your screen, then find the Advanced Mode toggle from the menu that appears.

dashboardadvancedmodetoggle.PNG

You'll get a chance to confirm that you want to switch to Advanced mode before actually moving over.

advancedmodeareusure.PNG

In order to make the switch over to Advanced mode, you'll need to make a password. This also means that you will no longer be receiving a one time passcode via text to gain access into your account. Instead, you'll be logging in with your username and your password.

Please note that switching to Advanced mode will not change your username to your email address if it is currently your phone number. If you wish to change your username, please contact our support team so we can action this for you. We will need to know your current username and the username you would like to switch to.

If you decide that you do not like Advanced mode, you can always toggle back to Basic mode by clicking on the profile icon at the top right corner of the screen and finding the Advanced mode toggle.

Save your recovery key somewhere safe

Once you've set your password, you'll be prompted to download your recovery key. If you are on a mobile device, you may be also have the option of taking a screenshot of the recovery kit page.

If you forget or misplace your password, your recovery key will be the only way for you to gain access to your account without losing any encrypted information. Please be sure to save it in a safe, memorable location where it will not be deleted.

If you did not download your recovery key the first time you accessed your account or need to download the recovery key again, you can click on the profile icon to the top right of the screen, then Settings.

Then, navigate to Account recovery.

Click on Download recovery kit.

You will need to enter the password to your account to gain access to your recovery key.

A file will be downloaded to your device which should look something like this.

Verify your email addresses and phone numbers for MFA

Another step that we recommend all users take is to verify their email addresses and phone numbers on their account. This will serve three main functions.

First, it will allow you to utilize these points of contact as recovery information. If, for example, you need to reset your password, you would need to enter your username and recovery key, and a password reset link would be sent to your recovery email address.

Secondly, you can use these points of contact to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA). This way, when you go to log in, you will not only need your username and password, but your identity will also be verified by putting in a one time passcode sent to your phone number or email address of your choosing.

Finally, verified email addresses and phone numbers can be used for forwarding emails, text messages, and phone calls.

All that sounds great, so how do we verify our email addresses and phone numbers?

Let's start from the home page of our Advanced mode account. Click on the profile icon at the top right, then click Settings.

advancedmodesettings.PNG

Click on Account recovery.

advancedmodeaccountrecovery.PNG

From here, you can click on the pencil icon next to Recovery phone number and Recovery email to add a new phone number or email address.

recoveryphoneandemail.PNG

Alternatively, if you click on the trash can icon, you will have the option of deleting phone numbers or email addresses from your verified list.

Create your first identity

Now that we've gone ahead and verified our email addresses and phone numbers, we can begin creating identities that can forward to or be used instead of those points of contact. Let's navigate back to the home page on the Cloaked dashboard and click on + New identity at the bottom left.

newidentitybutton.PNG

From here, you'll see a new menu pop up on the right side of the screen. It will prompt you to add a name or the URL of the site you'd like to use this identity on. This guide will be creating an identity for American Airlines, but you can put anything in here.

identitycreatename.PNG

You'll see that the menu will update the name of the identity to match the name of the company, and the website field will populate with the URL.

Below this, you'll see that you can generate a phone number, email address, username, or password. If you hover over these on a computer browser, the Generate button will appear. On the mobile app, you can just click on the empty field next to the + sign.

newidentitypage.PNG

Once you're done generating all the information you need, you can now hand out the email address or phone number you've generated to use on any other website, app, or service!

If you need to see a list of your current identities, from the home page of the Cloaked computer dashboard, click on All identities on the left hand side of the screen.

allidentities.PNG

This will bring you to a list of all the identities you've created so far.

Download the Cloaked Extension

If you plan on using Cloaked as your password manager, you will need to download the Cloaked extension to allow Cloaked to autofill usernames and passwords where it can.

In order to do this, navigate back to the home page of the computer dashboard. Click on the profile icon at the top right corner of the screen, then click Download extension.

downloadextension.PNG

This will bring you to the download page of the extension for the browser you are using.

downloadextensionpage.PNG

From here, you can download the extension which should now appear at the top of your browser by extensions. Be sure to pin the extension by clicking the pushpin icon that may appear when hovering over it. Alternatively, if you right click the extension icon, you should have a Pin option.

When opening the extension for the first time, be sure to log in so that the extension can access your Cloaked identities.

What's Next?

Now that you've gotten your account fully set up, there's a number of different things you can do with Cloaked.

If you are most interested in our data removal program, be sure to check back periodically to see all the progress we're making on removing your information from online data brokers. Additionally, you'll want to be sure to regularly check and update your enrollment details so that you know we are scanning for all the relevant information you'd like us to search for you by.

If you are looking to use Cloaked as a password manager, be sure to update any accounts that you already have with Cloaked usernames and passwords. While this can be tedious at first, it will protect you in the long run. Here's a guide on this process:

Using Cloaked to: Cloak an existing account

And finally, if you want to obscure your information by providing Cloaked email addresses and phone numbers wherever possible, we recommend using Cloaked's identity generation to create these points of contact whenever a website, app, or service asks for one. This will help you to anonymize yourself in this digital day and age. Here's a guide on how that works, as well:

Starting with Cloaked to being a Pro Cloaker

Please note that while identity generation is functionally limitless, all Cloaked users are subject to our Terms of Service. Cloaked has automated systems in place to discourage and prevent misuse.
